Director Payroll (India & Global)

Role Overview
The Director – Payroll will lead and manage end-to-end payroll operations across India and global regions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and scalability. This role focuses on operational excellence, process standardization, and driving transformation initiatives while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Global Payroll Management
- Oversee payroll operations across India and multiple international geographies.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing for all employee groups.
- Manage complex payroll scenarios including bonuses, commissions, stock-based compensation, and cross-border payments.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to statutory requirements, tax laws, and labor regulations across all jurisdictions.
- Lead payroll audits and maintain strong internal controls.
- Mitigate risks by implementing robust governance frameworks and compliance checks.
Process Optimization & Transformation
- Drive process improvements, automation, and payroll system enhancements.
- Standardize global payroll processes while accommodating local requirements.
- Lead or support payroll transformation projects (e.g., system migrations, vendor transitions).
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and Tax teams to ensure seamless payroll execution.
- Act as a key escalation point for payroll issues and provide resolution.
- Deliver payroll insights, dashboards, and analytics to leadership.
Vendor & Technology Management
- Manage relationships with global payroll vendors (e.g., ADP, Ramco, Safeguard, etc.).
- Ensure SLAs are met and vendors deliver high-quality services.
- Support implementation and optimization of payroll/HRIS systems (Workday, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop regional payroll teams and/or shared services teams.
- Drive performance management, capability building, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, HR, or related field (MBA/CA/CPA preferred).
- 10–15+ years of payroll experience with strong exposure to India and global payroll operations.
- Proven experience managing multi-country payroll and leading teams.
- Deep understanding of payroll compliance, taxation, and statutory requirements.
